Become an Election Technician

 

DUTIES: Election technicians are responsible for setting up the election equipment in their assigned precinct and to ensure that all voting machines, e-pollbooks, cords, cables, outlets, etc. are working and connected to ensure the voting site opens on time (7:00AM). Providing a fair and accessible election for all eligible voters. Duties include but are not limited to setting up and breaking down a polling place before and after voting hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be an election technician, you must be:

1. 18 years old or older*.
2. Have a valid driver’s license.
3. Must have reliable transportation.
4. A registered voter in the State of Maryland.
5. Able to speak, read, and write English.
6. Physically and mentally able to work at least a 15-hour day.
7. Willing to work outside your home precinct; and
8. Able to sit and/or stand for an extended period.

NOTE: Technicians are required to be able to lift boxes and other items weighing 10 to 25 lbs.

Additionally, you cannot be an election technician and a:
1. Candidate or currently hold a public or political office, including State and county political party central committees; or
2. Chairman, campaign manager or treasurer for a political or candidatecommittee.

No experience is required, and the Baltimore City Board of Elections will provide comprehensive mandatory training. Knowledge of computers is preferred. Bilingual speakers are encouraged to apply.

Compensation:


• Technician: $400.00

Each technician works as part of the election workers team including but not limited to one Democratic Judge and one Republican Judge. If you would like additional information concerning election technicians, please email Lisa Stanley.

Mandatory Training Class

You are required by law to attend a training class and to serve on the day(s) you are assigned to work. You will receive compensation of $50.00 for attending each training session.

➢ IF YOU ARE A CURRENT SERVING ELECTION JUDGE YOU WILL NOT BE RECRUITED FROM THE JUDGES DEPARTMENT, DUE TO THE NEED FOR MORE JUDGES THAN TECHNICIANS DURING AN ELECTION.

➢ IN ADDITION, FOR TECHNICIANS WE ARE RECRUITING PERSONS WITH COMPUTER AND TECHNICAL SKILLS.

➢ YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PICK UP A ROUTER FROM THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS WAREHOUSE THE SUNDAY BEFORE THE ELECTION AND TO SET IT UP THE MONDAY PRIOR TO ELECTION DAY TO ENSURE IT CONNECTS TO THE STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS.
